This robot consists of two gantries; an “Inbound system” (raw tires) gantry and an “Outbound system” (assemblies) gantry. Each gantry will normally cover it’s own area, but can operate in both areas if one gantry is down.

Each gantry is equipped with the same type of End Effector that is capable of picking and placing either 2 or 4 tires or assemblies at one time. Raw tires will be stacked up to eight high, and assemblies will be stacked up to four high.

Each gantry will receive and acknowledge pick and place commands from the WM&CS. Tires and Assemblies data (types, sizes, quantities, etc.) will be maintained by the WM&CS. The gantries will maintain a database of X, Y, and Z coordinates, and their offsets for picking various diameters.

The Inbound gantry will pick stacks of up to four raw tires from the tire infeed CDLR conveyor (by others) and place them as directed either on the floor or on top of an existing stack of tires. The Inbound gantry will pick two or four tires from stacks as directed by the WM&CS and deliver them to the CDLR conveyor outfeed to assembly, or to a gravity conveyor for manual handling.

The Outbound gantry will pick stacks of up to four tires and wheel assemblies from the assembly infeed CDLR conveyor (by others) and place them as directed on the floor. The Outbound gantry will pick two or four assemblies from stacks as directed by the WM&CS and place them into shipping racks. Assemblies may be placed four at a time or by placing two then moving to another rack position and placing the remaining two assemblies.

Hardware flags and software will keep the two gantries from interfering with each other. If there is a problem, either gantry may be jogged or manually pushed to one end for repair while the other gantry covers both the inbound and outbound areas at a reduced rate. As the system is currently designed, maintenance, if required, can only be performed when both robots are in an E-Stop condition and under Lockout-Tagout procedures.
