Polymer Bale Packaging
Plastic processors often receive their polymers in bale form. These bales weigh about 90 lbs each and are often in "friable" form. That is, they are a compressed crumb and can be damaged without secure wrapping. These bales are wrapped in film and then inserted into a corrugated carrier for protection. They are then stacked in aluminum returnable containers for shipment.
Machine Tending
Hot billets, approximately 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, are removed from a shear and placed in the first of multiple die positions located in several heavy weight forging presses. Critical part alignment and rapid transfer are essential for quality forgings.
Sage Automation designed a system to pick rectangular billets from the shear and transfer the ever-evolving part through 2 separate presses with three different cycles. The end product, a ring shaped piece, was then placed on an exit conveyor.
Machine Loading
During the manufacture of oil industry drill pipe, various size couplings or "tool joints" are friction welded to the ends of prepared pipe stock. These tool joints are cylindrical and can weigh up to 400 lbs. With length variations from 15" to 48", these parts must be precisely inserted longitudinally into the chuck jaws of the welding machine.
Folded Carton Press to Pallet
This 6-Axis FANUC R-2000 robot was used to palletize stacks of folded cartons coming from the press.
