Distribution Centers stock SKUs, usually by pallet load, and pick to order for their customers.  This process often involves depalletizing source pallets by full tier and directing the tier products to customer orders.

Sage Automation has provided layer depalletizer robotic work cells and work cells to build mixed load (rainbow) pallets by assembling full tiers of products where each tier may be a different SKU.

Mixed Loads

Layer Depalletizers usually place a full tier on a descrambler that singulates the cases comprising the full tier.  Some customer orders, however, require fill product tiers of the same SKU.  It is efficient and simple to pick full layers from the source pallets and build customer orders by adding full tiers of different SKUs before adding the mixed tiers.
